(ABC 6 News) -- The Rochester Habitat for Humanity is known for helping people realize their dreams of having a decent place to live.
This time around Mohammed Abdi and his family were the lucky ones to receive the gift of a home.
Ryan Kling-Punt is Habitat for Humanity’s community outreach manager and his job is to find people to help, "When we build a new home for a family and give them a safe healthy place to live we believe that it helps them build a better future for themselves and also for their communities. For their neighborhoods and really to improve the lives of more than just the family we are helping today."
This week is known as National Women’s Build Week. Though there are plenty of women in construction, this particular week the Habitat for Humanity wanted to double that.
Women from all over the community came together Saturday with this even, even women visiting from out of the country. Ninia Goyal is visiting Rochester from India and heard about build week from her sister and felt like this was the right thing to do while on vacation, "She just asked me you know there’s a volunteering program for house construction for a family of 8, are you interested? So, I said sure why not. It sounded like a noble cause, so I mean it feels good to help somebody out".
