(ABC 6 NEWS) – Three murders in one year in a county with 50,000 people. On Wednesday we continued our special series, Murders of Winona County. This time we focused on a Winona man who was shot and killed in his apartment.

Lynn Fort spoke exclusively with ABC 6 News about her son’s death.

"It was horrible. I fell to the ground and I was just crying and my whole life was ripped apart," said Fort.

Authorities say it was a drug deal that ended violently. Seven people were initially arrested in connection to the murder. Over the last year it's been a cycle of going in and out of courtrooms for the person who loved Adam the most.

"I think it might be him calling every time I watch the football game. I wish Adam was there to watch it with me," added Fort.

Adam's death was the first of three separate murders in less than a year in Winona County.

"I think it might be him calling every time I watch the football game. I wish Adam was there to watch it with me," said Winona County Attorney Karin Sonneman.

Sonneman says over the last year her office has spent hundreds of hours trying to bring justice to the three victims and their families.

"It does get you I mean I think about these cases all the time. I'll be walking down the street or at home and all of a sudden start thinking about these," said Sonneman.

Kent Feltes was Adam Fort’s vest friend. He still remembers getting the phone call about Adam’s death.

“Whenever they told me wherever it was I just knew at that point and that’s when I called Lynn and got that phone call, yah know,” added Feltes.

Lynn Fort holds onto the things that now mean so much more like pictures and a Mother’s Day card from her only son Adam.

“’Love you very much, Adam. P.s. thank you for it all.’ That’s a card he had given me for mother’s day,” said Lynn.
